How Signature 28 can help you with an OUTSTANDING lower denture

What is the most common complaint about dentures? Answer: Lower Dentures.

The fact is that all lower dentures have to operate in a highly mobile and active environment. Your lips and tongue will often unconsciously dislodge your lower denture. This can be a significant issue when you are trying to speak, chew, and swallow. Lower dentures that are loose and do not fit well can cause pain and soreness in your gums. In addition, traditional lower dentures can cause food to get trapped underneath it, resulting in unwanted problems or infections.

How can Signature 28 help with your lower denture issues?

Traditional lower dentures are fitted by pulling on the patient’s cheeks and lips to determine the proper edge/ border of the denture. Signature 28’s Curtis Wiebe recently became an SEMCD certified denturist, and can provide our patients with a custom fitted lower denture. This lower denture has many wonderful advantages, including tremendous stability and improved suction.

When you consult with Curtis, you will go through a series of sound tests and mouth movements. The process is longer than if you were to get a traditional lower denture, but the benefits are worth the thorough examination. When using the SEMCD technique, no two dentures are alike. Curtis will provide you with an amazing product that is unique to your specific mouth.

Will this new lower denture work for everyone?

Not everyone is a good candidate for an SEMCD denture. About 80% of the denture population could potentially be a good fit for this great product. There is absolutely no harm in getting a personal evaluation, and we encourage all of our patients to book an appointment at our clinic.

What are the most significant advantages of this new lower denture?

  • Your new suction denture is designed to work in perfect harmony with your jaw muscles. No more clicking sounds!
  • There is tremendous suction achieved
  • Unsurpassed stability and rentention
  • You can wear your denture permanently and not just for special occasions
  • Patients will not require as much “adaptive capacity” and can adjust to a suction denture faster than when wearing a conventional denture
  • Tooth positions are manually set by the Denturist so that they work well with your facial muscles
  • Special gingival contouring and shaping of the denture creates a much more natural appearance
  • Better pronunciation
  • Improved lifestyle

4 Signs you found the right Calgary Denture Professional.

Dentures, Smile Blog

Happy Snowy Monday Calgary!

Your relationship with your Calgary Denture Professional can turn out to be a long-term friendship. It all depends on how happy and comfortable you feel with your denture and the level of customer service offered at your local Calgary Denture clinic. Finding the right Calgary Denture Pro is incredibly important and could take years. After all, we’re talking about your long-term oral health, and your overall self-confidence. Below are 4 signs that you found the perfect Calgary Denture Expert for your personal needs.

  1. Your Calgary Denture Professional is genuinely emphatic.

Any Denturist will hear about your needs and concerns. But a great Calgary Denture Expert does not not just hear, bur will take the time to listen and understand your issues or expectations. You deserve true empathy and respect from your Denturist. He/ she will address your concerns in a manner that demonstrates kindness and compassion. Sadly, a lot of patients report feeling judged and spoken to in a patronizing way. If you feel belittled or judged, end the relationship immediately. True empathy is tremendously relevant to your happiness and overall well-being.

Calgary Denture- Satisfied Customer

2. Your Friends and Relatives have recommended your Denturist.

Our trusted friends and relatives generally want the best for us. Ask them for the pros and cons of their own relationships with their Calgary Denture Expert. Their detailed reviews can often help you make an educated decision on whether a specific Denturist is right for you. If your friends report having known their Denturist for years, this could be a great clue as to whether this Professional can help you on a long-term basis.  Do not be afraid to ask your Denturist if he/ she knows about your friend or relative. A caring Denturist will often remember their valued clients as long-term relationships with them are maintained over years.

3. You feel comfortable asking questions about costs and insurance coverage.

Some Denturists purposely choose to not reveal details about service costs or insurance coverage. If you notice that your Calgary Denture Professional is intentionally vague or mysterious about these costs, you might want to consider the services of another Denturist with more transparency regarding Denture costs. You should feel comfortable asking about costs, product warranty, and insurance information. Your Calgary Denture staff should be willing and happy to convey any information your require. Never forget that you are in control of your appointment, and you should never feel embarrassed about any questions or concerns your may have about financial transactions.

Ask Anything About Your Dentures or Dental Implants

It is never a good sign if you leave your Calgary Denture Clinic feeling sad and depressed.

What Are Dentures?

Couple With Dentures

A denture is a removable dental appliance replacement for missing teeth and surrounding tissue.  They are made to closely resemble your natural teeth and may even enhance your smile.

There are two types of dentures: complete and partial dentures. Complete dentures are used when all of the teeth are missing, while partial dentures are used when some natural teeth remain.  A Partial denture not only fills in the spaces created by missing teeth, it prevents other teeth from shifting.

A Complete denture may be either “conventional” or “immediate.”  A conventional type is made after the teeth have been removed and the gum tissue has healed, usually taking 4 to 6 weeks.  During this time the patient will go without teeth.  Immediate dentures are made in advance and immediately placed after the teeth are removed, thus preventing the patient from having to be without teeth during the healing process.  Once the tissues shrink and heal, adjustments will have to be made.

An important step in maintaining ones healthy smile is to replace missing teeth. When teeth are missing, the remaining ones can change position, drifting into the surrounding space. Teeth that are out of position can damage tissues in the mouth and other remaining natural teeth. As a result, you run the risk of premature additional tooth loss. A removable partial denture fills in the space created by missing teeth and fills out your smile. A partial denture helps you to properly chew food, and prevents your remaining natural teeth from moving, a difficult task when you are missing teeth. In addition, a partial denture will improve confidence by preventing premature aging because it provides support for lips and cheeks.

In most cases, your Denturist can restore a broken or cracked denture to its original state. Repairs may be required when breakage or chipping occurs, when one or more teeth need to be added to an existing denture (due to tooth extraction), or because of wear and tear.

Most repairs can easily be done in one day, through an in house lab. If your denture requires a repair, it may be because of underlying problems, including age of the denture, worn teeth, poor fit, or poor bite. Your Denturist is the professional who can best explain how to prevent denture breakage from occurring. Here at Signature 28 Denture Clinic, our in-house lab provides the advantage of repairing your denture within a few hours.

Cheap Dentures: Are They Right For Me?

Before we get into explaining what cheap dentures are, I cannot stress enough the importance of a thorough consultation with your Denturist prior to any treatment. The consultation appointment gives you the opportunity to express your concerns and desires for your new dentures. It also allows the Denturist the opportunity to assess the oral conditions inside and outside your mouth, and also allows them the opportunity to assess your needs and exceed your expectations.

Cheap dentures are also known as standard dentures. Standard dentures may fit comfortably and chew well, but are designed for the average patient using basic tooth shades, measurements, and shapes. Standard dentures are unable to achieve the natural appearance some patients desire because of the basic materials that are used. Every denture patient, especially those with oral tissues and bone which have resorbed (shrunk) or those who have unusual jaw relationships (bite) may require a custom cosmetic denture that utilizes premium materials and precision techniques. With premium custom cosmetic dentures, aesthetics, comfort, fit, and function combine to allow your natural smile to shine.

Premium custom cosmetic dentures instill confidence and provide optimum function while eating, speaking, or laughing.

Through the use of sophisticated instrumentation, from the impressions of your jaws to the specific jaw movements you make, all your facial information is recorded. The Denturist is then able to recreate the character of your smile and restore the natural contour of your lips and facial muscles.

As a Denture specialist, Curtis Wiebe offers various types of dentures to satisfy each patient’s specific requirements. Your Denturist, in close consultation with you, will determine what those requirements are and how to meet them. Signature 28 Denture Clinic is able to provide you with the professional advice needed prior to choosing the denture that best suits your lifestyle. Your smile has never come this naturally.

How New Dentures Changed My Dads Life

Dental Implants, Dentures

Life Changing Dentures

Can we start by saying that we absolutely LOVE our clients? Signature 28 Denture Clinic is extremely proud to be involved with a variety of wonderful Calgarians. Our patients are extraordinary people who have remained loyal to our business for many years. We are so grateful for their support. This why we are excited to come to work and strive for the excellent service that our customers truly deserve. We recently asked one of our clients, Lynn, to share her testimonial on our blog. Lynn’s father is one of our customers, and met with Curtis because he needed new dentures. English isn’t his first language, which is why Lynn is writing on the behalf of her family. Please read below:

Calgary Denture Testimonial- Signature 28 Denture Clinic

I am Lynn and I am a first generation Canadian. I was mostly raised by my father who took great care of us while my Mom worked long hours at a local bank. For as far as I can remember, my Dad has been missing one of his front teeth. It was very noticeable. When I look at our old family photos, I’ve noticed that he is rarely smiling. Everyone I know would describe my dad as a hard-working, kind, and generous person. But, no one would ever define him as a “smiling” person. He often looked sad and grumpy. His reluctance to smile made it harder for him to maintain long-term friendships. The shame and embarrassment he felt also rubbed on us. As a teenager, I often avoided being seen in public with him. I even lied when one of my friends asked me if he was my father because somehow, I too felt the shame that he displayed and I didn’t even know why.

My father lost his front tooth in his mid-twenties. This was not the result of an accident or an exciting hockey fight. Dad grew up as the eldest of 6 kids. His parents were poor- very poor- and could barely afford to put food on the table. Toothpaste was a luxury they could not afford, and with no health education, his family did not realize the importance of proper dental care. When his tooth started hurting, the easy (and cheapest) solution was to extract it. His native country is a developing nation that lacked proper technology or resources to save the tooth. This is how this toothless grin ended up in his wedding pictures. He did try dentures, but they always made him feel uncomfortable. A dental implant was out of the question! At the time, our family couldn’t afford it. Reality sunk it and he lived without a front tooth for years. He kept a bushy mustache and tried to conceal his upper teeth. Obviously, this didn’t help his self esteem at all.

At the age of 65, my father was resigned to habit of hiding his missing tooth. It was a battle convincing him that seeing a Denturist would really benefit him. After some thorough online research I found Curtis Wiebe. Our visit to the Signature 28 Denture clinic remains a memorable event. We were greeted with warmth and kindness. My apprehensive father slowly let down his guard and started opening up. I was absolutely shocked at the fact that he shared very intimate details with Curtis. For the first time in his life, he was able to shed his fear and frustration to someone that understood. Our initial consultation lasted for about an hour. We left the office feeling relieved and excited about our treatment plan and the prospective new dentures.

With Curtis’s help, my Dad is now embracing life with his new denture. The fit is so comfortable that he reports not even knowing that he’s wearing it. Dad has gone from permanently frowning to smiling. He also looks 20 years younger! It’s amazing what a smile can do to your face. It feels good to see my Dad smiling again. I can tell that he is no longer worried about meeting new people or attending public events. For the first time in years, I’ve actually seen him LAUGH! His big bright laugh lights up any room and the joy he brings to us is priceless. Meeting with Curtis was one of the smartest decisions we’ve ever made.

If you have a family member whose smile needs some help and new dentures, I would strongly recommend they give Curtis and his team a call at Signature 28. A beautiful smile can drastically improve your mental and emotional health. People feel younger and happier when they can express joy through a big smile. And if you are looking for a caring Denturist, contact Signature 28 Denture Clinic. The staff provides exceptional service to hundreds of happy customers. You can make the first step to a new refreshing smile by calling 403.228.5311.

2. Do you offer financing?

You don’t have to be over-worried about denture costs. Many Denture clinics may choose to offer financing options to their clients. If you are unable to come up with the full amount of the denture product or service, don’t hesitate to inquire about financing options. A large number of patients report using denture financing to make it easier on their wallet. Our clinic gives you the option of paying 50% of the total  fee at the beginning of the treatment. You won’t need to pay the remaining 50% of the total balance until you receive your new denture (usually within 4-5 weeks of the initial consultation.) We will be happy to answer all your questions about how much our dentures cost, financing, and payment options.

3. Is there any follow-up care or schedule at your practice?

This is a very important question. You need to make sure your Denturist is willing to make sure your new denture fits well and you are well-adjusted to your new product. Signature 28’s Denturist will invite you to come for a follow-up appointment within 2 weeks of receiving your new dentures. This second visit will also determine which recare follow-up schedule is most appropriate for your specific needs. Each patient’s individual needs are carefully assessed and taken in consideration. We make sure we can follow-up with you at least once a year.

4. How many years of combined experience does your Denture clinic have?

A good denture clinic has 10+ years of combined experience. Signature 28 Denture Clinic currently has 30+ years of combined experience. We are incredibly knowledgeable and experienced in the Denture/ Dental implant industry. Our clinic  has served hundreds of happy Calgary customers and we continue providing outstanding personalized care to our customers.

5. Do you offer warranty on your products and services?

Be sure to ask this important question to your Denturist. Many Denture professionals do not offer warranty on their products. Signature 28 Denture Clinic is incredibly proud of the outstanding workmanship of our products. We offer a 3-month warranty for Standard Dentures and a 1-year warranty for Premium Dentures. The warranty covers defects in workmanship such as denture tooth cracks. We also offer free adjustments if your denture is loose or there are sore spots that need to be examined.

6. What are your methods of payment?

If your dentures cost more than a hundred dollars, you need to know what your payments options are! Most Denturists accept cash and debit. However, credit card payments are not accepted everywhere. Make sure to ask your Denturist about his practice’s methods of payments. Signature 28 accepts cash, debit, VISA, Mastercard, and cheque.

4 Essential Tips For Your New Dentures

Adjusting to your new dentures can be tricky. But don’t worry. Although it may take some practice and time, most new denture users end up finding them comfortable. Today we will share 4 amazing tips on how you can get accustomed to your new dentures.

  1. Keep up your regular eating and drinking practice.

New Denture Tips

Drink lots of water and avoid sticky/ sugary foods. Soups, fruit shakes, and yogurts are great choices. They are packed with excellent nutrients and they are easy to swallow. Raw vegetables, meat, oatmeal, and foods with hard textures are tough on your new dentures. Cut your food into smaller pieces and avoid ingesting large chunks of food.

  1. How to deal with the excess saliva.

Your mouth will usually react to a new denture by producing an excessive flow of saliva. This is because your new denture is initially perceived as a foreign object. This is a temporary discomfort that will slowly subside as you continue wearing your dentures. Sucking on hard candy  can help; you will unconsciously swallow the excess saliva and this may reduce the uncomfortable feeling. Opt for sugar-free hard peppermint candies.

Hyper salivation could be a result of the dentures not being properly sealed. Check the seal on your dentures, and if you are still struggling with excess saliva, talk to your Denturist.

3. Practice your talking by being a chatterbox.

Practice your speech as much as possible. Encourage conversations with your family and friends. Some patients even practice their talking with their pets and plants! The use of a denture can result in sounds or voices being louder. In the event that you hear clicking sounds, try to speak more slowly. Read out loud and continuously repeat words and numbers you have trouble pronouncing. If you experience too much slipping, use a denture adhesive recommended by your Denturist.

4. Don’t give up! Patience is key!

Speech tips for new dentures

Wearing your new denture can be a strange and overwhelming feeling. However, try to remain positive and persistent. Keep wearing your denture as much as possible. The longer you wear your denture, the more control you will have over it.

For more tips on how to deal with your new dentures, don’t hesitate to call Curtis Wiebe at 403.228.5311. Curtis is an experienced Calgary Denturist who is incredibly passionate about his work.

6 Tips For Choosing a Calgary Denturist

If you require denture services, is it worth doing much research about a potential Denturist? You could pick a Denturist that you know or someone who practises in your neighbourhood. In Alberta, all Denturists are licensed professionals who have gone through years of schooling and training for them to practice. They are regulated under the Health Professions Act, and are required to maintain high standards of quality control within their laboratories. If all of these regulations are in place, we could safely presume that any Albertan Denturist is reliable and trustworthy. However, although every Denturist in Alberta should logically be trustworthy, the reality is that you need to pick a Denturist that is right for you. Below are 6 great tips for choosing a Calgary Denturist for your needs:

Do Thorough Online Research

Take the time to go through online testimonials. Be objective and don’t focus on the negative. A good Denturist should have more positive reviews than negative ones. Avoid at all costs if there is an overwhelming amount of negative feedback with multiple reports of clients being scammed. For example, most you can see what others are saying about your potential Denturist on You can see what Signature28 patients are saying here.

Check the Denturist Association of Alberta Website

Go to this website: Based on your current location, you can find approved and licensed Denture professionals who are registered with the College of Alberta Denturists.

Look for an understanding and emphatic Denturist

empathic calgary denturist

Visiting a Denturist can be an intimidating process. Many patients can feel anxious or embarrassed when sharing their personal situations with a Denturist. The staff at your Denturist’s office should have a gentle and compassionate approach that is non-patronizing and non-judgmental. Other essential qualities that your Calgary Denture Professional should have: incredible patience; awesome bedside manners; extraordinary listening skills; ability to remain focused; and great reliability.

Ensure your Calgary Denturist understands your lifestyle

Your Denturist should be diligent and make sure he/she has a thorough understanding of your lifestyle. This is incredibly relevant for the denture to fit well and be comfortable.

Is the supporting cast a team of superstars?

A smart and successful Denturist receives amazing support from their staff. Your Calgary Denturist should have a fantastic office manager who can demonstrate friendly professionalism and incredible tactfulness. Office assistants allow Denturists to remain focused on their patients so they can fully dedicate themselves to your needs, and don’t have to handle administrative tasks.

Does your Calgary Denturist make you smile?

Having dentures may require regular visits. Therefore, it is very important that you get along with your Denturist. Good Denturists can make you feel at ease. GREAT Denturists can make your whole face smile. You should always leave your Denturist’s office with a genuinely positive feeling about your visit.
